As my life in Ankara ended last June, it has been a while not updating this blog. It was a fun semester in Bilkent University as well as in Ankara. Since I'm not going to be in Turkey for quite a while my adventure in Ankara came to an end.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Still, for the last time, I would like to share some of my great time in Ankara!

Merhaba! To learn a culture, one of the best ways is to go visit a museum. Museum is one of the choice in Ankara, but in a museum, you can hardly touch the exhibit and of course not to own them. However, once in a month, in Ankara, you can have a chance to see to feel and to own... Ankara Pazari ! Happening on the first Sunday in Ankara every month. You can find lots of different kinds of old stuff. If you want to fell the nostalgia of Ankara or Turkey, Ayranci Ankara Pazari is the right place to go. There's also food stalls where people can enjoy some simple snacks and tea after shopping. Ayranci Ankara Pazari
First Sunday of each month Starts at around 10am and ends at around 5pm (It depends on the owner of each stall) Elçi Sk. , Ankara Merhaba explorers! It's middle of May! The weather is pretty good recently. The daytime is getting longer, the sun rises at 5 am in the morning and sets at 8 pm, That's one of the reasons that I love May since it feels like you are having more time to use during the day and it's not really hot yet. There are so many nice museums in Ankara, and as the weather is so nice, I decided to go to this outdoor museum. Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi (Golden Village open Air Museum) is an outdoor museum which shows the old village life in Turkey. The museum card is not available in Altınköy, the entrance fee was 5TL. Remember to ask for an English map when you get the ticket. It really helped a lot, since the signs are all in Turkish. There was also a big map in the village chamber. One of the reasons of going this museum was this suspension bridge. I saw it from instagram and it motivated me to visit this museum. As this is the suspension bridge, it's not allowed to walk through. Still it's a nice spot to take photos. I think it's a pity that it can't be walk through. Because the Open Air Museum is in a valley shape, and the bridge located in the middle, it would be nice if visitors can pass through and don't have to walk down and up hill to travel from north to south part of the museum. The Wind Mill is one of the most recognising place in this museum and also a nice place for photos. It's not just an ordinary museum, you can enjoy the nature here. Another reason to come here during spring is that the grass is green and you can see lots of different kinds of flowers. It's a good idea to bring some food and spend time on the grass, chat and play with your loved ones! In this big museum village, there are many small museums showing different parts of life, for example, the laundry place, weaving workshop, toy museum and workshop, wildlife introduction museum etc. At the toy museum, they exhibit dolls in traditional costume from different regions in Turkey! The video bellow shows what I saw in Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi, basically it's in three parts, the environment, live animals and museums! According to the information from the map, Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi sells different kinds of product they produced themselves. The cows are milked everyday and the by-products like yoghurts and butter can be purchased at the grocery shop. As well as fresh eggs and the fresh grind flour shown in the video. But because the day I visited was a national holiday, the shop did not opened. To conclude, Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi is a nice place to rest and learn. Many parent brought their kids here to learn and to enjoy the green environment. Hope you enjoy this post and see you next time! Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi Besikkaya Mahallesi 2044. Hello explorers! We are now living in a modern and convenient world, but have you ever curious about how people live and what people use a few decades ago? Recently, I visited the Rahmi M. Koç Museum, and it exhibit all kinds of stuff in our daily life. From photos to models and real used objects, you can learn more about Ankara and the past generations (not just Ankara but all around the world).
The museum locates near Ankara Castle, I think it's nice to visit both places on the same day. Originally, I planned to spend 2 hours at the museum, but end up spending 4 hours in it. I found the exhibit so interesting, hope you can feel the same from the comparison below.

There is also a exhibition room specially for Ankara and Atatürk! You can find the objects he owned, magazines about him and also listen to his voice too!
All the exhibit in this museum look so vintage, but then I was thinking, the stuff here was once modern and high technology as well! One day, the things we are using now would be store in a museum too.
Special exhibition- Weaving The History: Mystery Of A City
(From 12.05.2018 - 16.09.2018) So when I visited the museum, they are having a short term exhibition about Sof, which is a kind of silky, fine and deluxe fabric woven with the yarn spun from mohair goats. Sof was once produced exclusively in Ankara during the 15th century and seen as a most important commercial product of Ankara. It was consumed by tradesmen, princes and princesses all around Europe for centuries until the 19th century. Not only the history of sof, you can also learn about how people dye it with natural ingredients and see well keep pieces made from last century.
At first, I thought this museum was a small one and that I can finish exploring to in a short period of time. However, it was not as small as I thought and they have lots of exhibits that I just came out 4 hours later. It's a really nice place to visit if you are interested in culture and history. Hope you enjoyed it and see you next time!

It means go to a restaurant to have tea, as well as having Dim Sum. But what's going to do with 1515? 3:15pm, it's the time for afternoon tea! Tea with some snacks is always a nice choice for people who need a break. In Tunalı, there's a cafe sells different kinds of tea, called the Asia Tea Bar Ankara. The place is not really big, but it's a nice place to spend time with friends, having tea with relaxing music. Different kinds of tea has different efficacy, you may ask the owner before ordering! Today, I'm going to show you some places where you can enjoy the old Ankara, as well as Turkish culture. During spring and summer time, there might be many people visiting the Ankara castle during afternoon time, and it would also be hot walking all the way up. So in my opinion, the best is to visit when the sun is setting! You can enjoy the view up there, as well as it won't be that hot. :) The following three places are nearby each other, They are all located on the way up to Ankara Castle from the metro station. 1. Ankara Castle 2. Anadolu Medeniyetleri Museum 3. Ankara Türk-Rus Dostluk Evi How to go? Take the metro and get off from Ulus station. Around 30 minutes walk from Ulus station to the castle. Hope you enjoy and see you next time!
Walking down streets in Ankara, have you ever seen any street arts? Last month, I was waiting for the school shuttle bus in Tunus Street and I had some time left before the bus departed, so I decided to walk around. First, I discovered an interesting graffiti of Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea. Then, I found there are actually quite a lot of graffiti in Çankaya area! There are many styles of graffiti, but today, I’m going to focus on 4 styles of them and introduce some gorgeous pieces I found in Çankaya!
A character can be a signature of an artist, some artist gets their characters from comics or television but most artist create their own characters. Sometimes, you may find meanings that the artist wanted to present from their work. Place no. 6 Place no. 2 2. Bubble Bubble Bubble POP! (Style: Bubble) Poke! The characteristic of the bubble style is that letters have a round curve, usually overlapping each other to create a soap-bubbles like looking. The character seems to be expended just like a bubble before bursting. This bubble style of graffiti consists two or more colors. One color for the letter and another color for the outlining. More colors can be used to create contrast and different visual effects. Place no. 2 Place no. 3 3. Let’s Go, Blockbuster! (Style: Blockbuster) Blockbuster is a really common style in graffiti. It is a style that cover a large area in a short amount of time. To do so, Artists use paint rollers instead of just spraying paint! Rollers help to speed up the process and it’s easier to create a large piece. Place no. 11 4. Fat Cap (Style: Fat Cap) Fat cap is a special nozzle used for graffiti art. The nozzle was invented by a graffiti artist called Supercool in late 1960s. Fat cap is placed on a can of spray paint and it has a wider nozzle which allows paint come out from the can in a wider stream, making wider lines. It is mainly used for tags, throw-ups and fillings. And because of the larger lines, people name this style as fat cap. Place no. 8 Place no.2 Art is a way to express yourself, what do you think, desire, culture and a lot more. A place’s street art is always a way to know more about the local culture. Next time when you see some street arts, spend more a few seconds to look and think , you may get some inspiration from it! Here are some other graffiti found in Çankaya, enjoy and see you in my next adventure! Where you can find them: Sources:

This is my first post and just want to say hi to everyone. In this blog, I’m going to share my journey here in Ankara. As a Sagittarius, which is well known by it's adventurous spirit and fearless. I love to travel and experience different cultures. I’m originally from Hong Kong, went to South Korea for undergraduate studies and currently staying in Ankara as an exchange student. I enjoy taking photos, during my time in Ankara, I would like to share my experience as a student as well as a traveler. Many people say Ankara is boring and nothing to do, many people don't even know where is Ankara. Ankara as the capital of Turkey, it might not as popular as Istanbul, and many people’s impression of turkey might only be a rural, sandy place, but I can tell you it’s not like that. During the time here, I would like to discover places worth to take pictures, for examples: historical places, nature, street art, indoors places such as museums, galleries, coffee shops. Once I saw some street arts in Tunus and I think it’s a really nice place for pictures! I will show my following discovers to all of you and hope everyone will enjoy exploring Ankara through this blog. And now, shall we start our adventures? |
